Fic Rec: Learning to Cope (HP, T, Genfic)
I'm finding that sometimes you can navigate the dreck on FanFic.Net by clicking on the favorites of authors you enjoy. Another cool thing to do if you're procrastinating is to click on the profiles of people who review your work or add you to their alerts and see what else they like to read or have written.
Not that I would know that or anything.
That exercise today led me to Bluebird88 and three really nice one-shots dealing with the character of Snape. I recc'ed them on
the_new_library, and you can find my entry here.
In other news, I'm 4,000+ words in on part 6 of "In Loco" already, mostly tweaking and reordering already written material, but adding some new connectors or things I know now that I didn't know when I wrote these parts. And Easter has been very relaxing, if only because I've been kind of sick and Wee Hob has been very good about letting me rest (or hugging me so he can get the virus in time for school tomorrow. Not sure which.) There were no confrontations at Mass this morning, but I did get another Death Glare. Wee Hob said he got a few himself. Ah well.
Happy Easter to all who observe it, and happy day to everyone else.

I was one of those, once upon a time. But we don't talk about that.
I have so many pet peeves about what I read that I can usually work out whether I'll like a fic or not within less than a chapter by skimming.
the posting barriers in some of the other HP archives seemed insurmountable, or those archives were geared to ship fic,
I have problems with the concept of moderated archives—it's a system that's asking to be abused, and there are a lot of horror stories floating around. Better to have open archives and decent rec sites, etc.
Would you like the soapbox back?

Yeah. It's the only way I can reach the pedals.

Me too, and I read really fast. But still, life is short, and some fics are bad. And at first, just reading randomly, I was hitting all the bad ones. Part of why I maintained a snobbish distance from HP fic as "written by Kids who should be paying attention in Math Class" for the longest time.
And yeah, we were all kids once. Some of us outgrow it. Cheers, and Happy Monday.
