Randomness for a random couple of nights before Nano:
First, looks like I have some new, local nanowrimo friends. Hi,
iboing,
xander_p, and
bardiphouka! I look forward to meeting you in person at some write ins. But now it comes down to it, I'm not sure how I feel about having potential non-strangers connected to me like this. What's even more weird about it-- most of my posts are not locked, even those that should be. In fact, I unlocked my Monsignor letter post to let a friend here read it, to save me the trouble of cutting and pasting it all into an email. I'll relock after she's seen it.
Maybe part of it is how I'm connecting to someone in the Real World and comparing it to what I've had here. I have some very dear and close people here. But I've never met most of them in real life. I think in some ways the screen of partial anonymity has made me more forthcoming and intimate than I would have been in real life-- though I do have boundary issues and really don't recognize things that seem obvious to others-- as some recent troubles in lj land indicate.
But anyway, the way we give each other pieces of our lives and trust each other with them, and how most of the time we're able to be more giving and loving in writing-- it's very interesting to me.
But it's a very different thing to be building a relationship, and working towards being able to build a life, with a fellow adult. Good news on that front-- his boss is open to the idea of his continuing to work for them remotely. So he will theoretically be able to keep his familiar and stable and much more lucrative than mine job, which will make a host of things easier on us.
Another interesting thing today-- I got a call from Berry, the Head Usher and Business Manager at the Cathedral. Apparently the Monsignor wants to meet with me after the night mass Sunday. Berry hastened to add-- "Don't worry. It's not bad. Unless he changes his mind between now and then." He sounded equal parts amused and surprised. I'm not sure how to feel about it. I faxed over the letter last Friday and he did not so much as look at me at Mass last Sunday. Wee Hob greeted him, though, seated with my Beloved. Both said he looked disgruntled, but he did return Wee Hob's greeting with a short wave as he walked by.
And-- Nanowrimo starts Saturday. Or Friday at midnight. I've been trying to read a bit of some "real" Novels-- Hemmingway's The Sun Also Rises (a first novel) and Joyce's Ulysses. Interesting to see how others do it-- though I admit I have not actually got to Joyce's text. The Intro is fascinating, though. So is Asimov's History of Britain, which my son brought home from the school library and I picked up the other night for some bathtub reading material.
Guess that's all for tonight.
