Greetings, friends,

For anyone wondering, I survived the winter campout with the Boy Scouts, and that is a Much longer and Funnier story that you do Not get to hear right now.

I'm repressing, yes. How did you know?

At any rate, I know some of you will know this. Tea customs, British, Gilesean in particular.

What do they call tea to which milk and sugar have not been added? "Black" is coffee, but it seems wrong here. There should be a phrase similar to "take it black" for tea, but I can't come up with it, and I kinda need it.

And would Giles offer someone Cream and sugar, or Milk and sugar?

For the purposes of my scene, I'm having Giles take his tea black in contrast to someone else, for reasons I hope will sort themselves by the time I'm done-- and I'm postulating that he normally does take it with milk/ cream and sugar, to underscore my point. I'd love it to have that "fact" confirmed by those of you in the know, but I'm keeping the interchange regardless. Because it's the remaining thing keeping my old fic from being done-- I punted on showing Giles and a much changed Spike under the influence of that magical poison, and it's time to rectify that.

If I can get any writing done without little boy *poinging* in every few seconds in a desperate attempt to avoid his homework....

Thanks in advance,

Hypothermic Hob

Ok, I've got a bit of the next section after this rewritten, but as long as I was at it, I decided to have another look at this part, and while I was there, thought, "might as well post it." Some small changes from the old version, but more importantly, I'm hopeful my struggling with it tonight will help with the flow of the added material in the next part.

I'm particularly proud of the explanation Giles gives Spike about his condition-- don't think I've seen it elsewhere, but then, I've read more Giles centric than Spike centric fic. But really, what else do you do with writers who insist on treating Spike the vampire as a decent person, with just some quirky habits? Who leave Dawn and everyone alone with him while the one responsible Adult in the whole group abandons them for England?

Don't get me wrong-- I like Spike in S5 and early 6-- and I like think there's more than just lust for Buffy spurring his reform. But it is hard to explain.

Anway, here it is: Part 6. Comments more than welcome.
