I was surprised to get the following comment on "Lost Boys" today from someone who saw it on
snapenews:
Do you know about the Snape after DH fest? The community is here:
http://community.livejournal.com/snape_after_dh/
Your story would fit one of the prompts for the fest, "ghost snape." It's not too late to claim that prompt and post your story as part of the fest. Posting starts on October 15 and ends at the end of the month.
Lots of fans want more Snape.
I checked with the mods of the comm, and they graciously agreed I could post my story as part of their ficathon, even though part of it had already been posted, but only if I agreed not to post anything else until October 15th, when their posting period begins. And also if I could assure them it would be complete by Nov 1st, which I think will be no problem.
I had already said here, before finding out about this, that I would be updating every Friday or Saturday until it was completely posted, which would mean posting the next bits on the 12th or 13th.
So, I ask friends, and anyone else cruising by who cares to participate, what should I do?

Date: 2007-10-11 09:21 pm (UTC)That said: Of course you should go with the option that'll give you the most exposure for your fic. It's good. It's a fun read. And you deserve the attention that a fic-a-thon will bring. The folks running the fic-a-thon are willing to accommodate you in exchange for a slight delay. I say grab it with both hands.

Date: 2007-10-11 09:44 pm (UTC)So yeah, I'll see what others say, but mostly I'll get back to rewriting those last scenes, and expanding one I saw needed it when I got to what I foolishly thought was the end.
Thanks for the wise advice, Lady.
Speaking of Harry Potter, looks like a lot of the fandom is at fanfiction.net-- didn't you call them "the pit of voles" once? If so, could you refresh my memory why?

Date: 2007-10-11 09:49 pm (UTC)I think it has to do with the frequent flaming that would happen in feedback comments (before you could disallow anonymous commenting over there). If you wrote a lightning-rod character (like Xander, for example), it wasn't unheard for someone to spam your feedback account with expletives over and over again. (I had a lovely anon FBer post "You're a c*nt!" more than 75 times on one story.)
Or it may be due to the (perceived) bad quality of fic there.
I'm not sure where it originated: either on TwOP or JournalFen, but I'm not 100% sure.

Date: 2007-10-11 11:04 pm (UTC)Which story was that FB on, out of idle curiosity?
And then, yeah, I really will get back to writing this painful scene.

Date: 2007-10-11 11:34 pm (UTC)See? In honor of your fic, I even used my only HP-related icon.

Date: 2007-10-12 12:05 am (UTC)Thanks for the wise counsel, Lady. And I have been much enjoying your links to your "paying gig" these past weeks. I am so very pleased about that for you.

Date: 2007-10-12 12:30 am (UTC)Anyway... if not, then you can use this days to keep writing.
I love Snape and everything that gives more exposure to great fics like this with him... I totally aprove :D
In conclusion MOAR!

Date: 2007-10-12 12:46 am (UTC)Yeah, it's mostly finished in draft, though the second half is considerably weaker than the first-- but nothing a week or so of polishing can't fix. And I have tomorrow off, and the weekend to finish my second draft of the ending, which is mostly an added scene and a POV shift for the final sequence. So, Probably not all will get posted on the 15th, but it has to be done by the 1st, and I believe it will be.
This timeline might actually move up the schedule a bit-- I initially wanted to post 1 or 2 of 14 total parts every weekend, to spread things out and not overwhelm readers. This will force me to post more at a time to get it all in by November 1.
Thanks for reading, and commenting here.
