Just random stuff for a Friday evening. I had my hair re-cut tonight-- I Really didn't like the bob. So now it's-- er-- shorter. I'll let it grow in the back and keep it layered on the top and sides a while. Though it will take a while for it to grow out again.

Wee Hob's in the doghouse again. Little matter of Homework. And he's acting like I am being unreasonable for being upset. I finally sent him to his room until he could be rational and tell me WTF is going on here. We'll have plenty of time to discuss it tomorrow morning in the car on the way out to Independence for the Boy Scout Dinner. He's sulking that I made him come in from the woods when I got home, but he will have to Get Over It.

Scrivener continues to be the Coolest Program Ever. I think what I like most is how you can start using it right away pretty intuitively, then say-- gee-- wish I could do This-- and look up in the help menu or tutorial how to do that one thing. I went through the tutorial, but the type is a little too small, and will be until next week when I get my new glasses, so I kinda-- skimmed. I really like how easy it is to get text into it from other sources-- I cut and pasted the versions on ff net in as reference and to keep the whole story together. I'm going to dump the "Lost Boys" sequel in there this weekend, and some original stuff. Will probably break down tonight and just buy the damn license, too. I really need to look into getting a Mac that is really and truly Mine, not belonging to my employer, even if they are pretty clear they don't want to buy anymore Macs for new people (if we ever get any) and would love to phase these out. I might offer to purchase this one outright. Used about a year-- what would the going rate on that be for a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.4.11?

And "Lost Boys" is rapidly approaching 10,000 hits ("In Loco" blew past that some time ago.) I like being able to see that people are actually reading my stuff, even if they don't all leave reviews.

What's going on in your world?

Do you need a widescreen to use Scrivener well? Right now I'm on a 12-inch laptop though I'm ordering a widescreen to hook it up to....

I use real life index cards.

I don't think so-- you can kind of switch from cards view to text pane(s) easily enough, and have the card pertaining to the current view pane up as you're writing. I'm on a 15 inch screen here and (except for needing bifocals) it's perfectly fine. Of course, I'm not using every feature yet, either.

You can download a 30 day trial and see what you think.

Am doing so now.

One of my RL friends has been bemoaning the fact that she doesn't have a Mac and thus can't use it, and I've ignored her and I honestly do love real index cards and real pens and such, but how can I go wrong with a free download? Plus, I'll have the widescreen soon so may as well give it a test run.

Hey Hob,

wanted to leave a comment yesterday, but my keyboard finally died on me after the Nth spill, so now I'm using one of my husband's old ones until my new one arrives.

That program there does look awesome, too bad I don't own a Mac or that it isn't compatible with windows, I might go on the lookout for a similar program though.

I'm happy your stories are being read, I'm always thrilled when I receive story-alert notice for Vomica Vita (my LOTR fanfic)although so few people actually leave reviews.

My original fiction is advancing, though I am about to embark on a radical rewriting. I have about 10,000 words. The story is clear in my head, all I need is to find the best and most compelling way to write it down. At the moment it isn't as exciting as it should be.

Well, if you see a program like Scrinever for windows, let me know.
Hope you and Wee Hob are doing good.
Marie

Hey,

I still owe you a read on that original fic-- won't be today though. I am a Boy Scout today. sigh.

Try the Srivener page-- there's a place on it somewhere for similar windows programs. See if you find something there.

hehe, like I said before, no rush on the reading of my story. Its a work in progress and a bit of a chaos at the moment.

I shall take a look at the Srivener page again, to see about those other programs. In the end I suppose I won't end up buying anything though, Google Docs is fine for me. And working in a browser is pretty nice. Easy for research and such.

You might hvae your friend go out to that page anyway-- there's a place where you can get links to similar windoze programs-- might be worth a look.

I'll be interested to hear what cool tricks you stumble across as you play with the program. I went ahead and bought a license yesterday.

I need to have my browser Disconnected to get anything useful done-- too tempting to go read other things-- email, Live Journal, updated fics, the weather.... Instant gratification girl, that's me. Plus my internet connection is sometimes flaky. But having the docs hosted elsewhere means they're safe in the event your local machine crashes. Though if the Google server ever did, you would be in a world of pain. You and about a gazillion other people.

My friend read about it on Jennifer Crusie's blog. I haven't been there, but if you want to check it out, she might have some stuff about it that is interesting. I don't read that blog (or really follow any blogs any more, other than LJs here) but I do have links to some interesting writing things that Crusie has posted, via my friend.
