Well you know how I feel about it, since the exact same thing happened to me at the same place. Yes you will get the unemployment and the new benefits last longer. Plus I'm confident someone as talented as you will find something closer to home and better shortly, naturally searching for work during the holidays is a nightmare. My husband is still out of work, 2008 has not been very kind to most people.
On the other hand, have a great time in TX next week, the weather is unusually warm there but not blistering. It's also great he's still coming out here in the spring. Leaving the crap-hole will probably be one of the best things for you in the end actually.
