Well, I got a very interesting scene with Severus and Minerva written tonight, one in which I get to do a little more with the Charity Burbage backstory-- a significant flashback to Snape cleaning out her office and having Minerva burst in on him and figure out that things are not as they appear. It fits into canon because they mutually agree that he has to obliviate her. But before he does, she gives him her ear and support, as a human and his friend, not as a “semi-sentient portrait with delusions of grandeur.”

I’m still trying to work out what this fic is going to be about. But it already has a couple of pretty cool scenes.

Ye olde progress meter:

I think I'm really close to surpassing last year's entire word count for the month, if I haven't already.

ETA: just checked-- last year I got 26,591 by midnight on the 30th of November. So it's official: I've beaten last year's word count!

Hugs and happy writing to all.

Congratulations, and the scene sounds wonderful. I assume this means you're writing about the year he was headmaster. It still steams me that a supposedly intelligent woman like Minerva McGonagall was presented as totally oblivious to what had to be going on. Detention in the forbidden forest with Hagrid. Yeah right! And to think that none of the people who knew him for 15 years could figure out what was going one! But, of course, we all know Severus was a "deeply horrible person." Yeah, right!

Thanks. Yeah, I had something like this in mind for the hallowed_moments ficathon, but they wouldn't let me in late, and I was busy with the Lost Boys anyway. I'm happy I found a use for the idea, which doesn't really work as a story on its own. And while sad, it's not as depressing using it as a flashback/ frame for a present day reconciliation.

Hmmm-- reconciliation. That word strikes me just now as what this story could be about. Minerva and Severus, Petunia and Severus, Severus and whatever enemy I dream up to be after him. And reconciliation with the dead/ the fact that the past cannot be changed, no matter how one might wish to. And Severus with Albus, if he can bring himself to do it. I'm not there yet, but maybe....

Wow, thanks for the comment. That's helpful. Want to see the first draft of that scene, as a reward? Or a punishment, maybe.

Of course I would! Reconciliation is definitely what Severus was denied in DH and I think that bothered fans even more than his death. We expected the death (though as I've said before--no body, no burial, no ghost, no portrait--no death!), but didn't expect there to be no real resolution between him and Harry ... and Lily and Dumbledore and the students and Hogwarts, etc. ;-)
