Thanks to everyone who offered kind words and support for my friend. He is doing much better and was released from the hospital yesterday. Would have posted last night, but seriously, WTF was up with LJ?

But that's not what this post is about. Many of you long time friends may have noticed a certain waning in my enthusiasm for all things Buffy. I read a bit, I comment, but I don't seek it out with my former zeal. I feel a little bad about my new fascination for a certain Potions Master, but there it is. Last year I signed up for Summer of Giles, only to have Potterdammerung hit about the time I needed to be seriously working on something-- anything. I posted a short fragment, gave the other story start to a good home, and that was it.

So, what should I do this year? Sounds like a job for... a Poll.

No harm has ever come from re-watching the entire series (except maybe an adverse reaction to to much Riley & Dawn). I don't know what the "Summer of Giles" is, but if anything's going to get a Buffy fic going, it's a series re-watch.

I've got one word for you: Crossover.

I know I was super helpful on the second part of the poll, but seriously: PLEASE finish the Giles-Willow-Ethan thing. If it's in beta than you wouldn't need to do that much. If you want help whipping it into shape, I am here an willing. But a finished project is a wonderful thing and signing up for a day would make you do it.

Alternatively, a crossover would be great. Giles/Snape anyone?

My brilliant idea is the same one that's already been posted. Do a crossover. I guess the obvious would be Giles/Snape and that would be cool but personally I'd love to read a fic in which Giles turns up at Privet Drive...

I, too, have lost my love of all things Buffy. Well, at least in terms of fanfic. I just re watched the whole series and now B/G fic is kinda squicking me.

In fact, I just got a notice from JK Phillips yahoo group that she's back to updating her story and I went to go start re reading it from the beginning and didn't make it past the first chapter.

If you find a magic cure for this apathy, lemme know?

I'll see what I can do. I sent JK Phillips an email and she responded quite graciously-- I need to get in there and reread myself. I saw the notice sniggs posted on all the jellies. Even if I, too, turn out not to be able to get into the story at this late date, I do owe her a debt of gratitude for influencing me with her work and example-- I remember devouring her stuff when I discovered fanfic.

I think, at least with me, that most of what draws me is when the characters are either speaking to or filling needs in my life, or when something about them makes me see a story to tell that explores something about my own issues. Things about facing death and growing up seem to be at the fore for me right now, and making peace with the past.

If I come up with anything that rekindles anything, I'll let you know. Are you mostly in HP fandom now, or is something else pulling at you? I don't watch TV, so I don't have exposure to new and shiny that others on my f-list have.
