Quick question, for Harry Potter fandom types:

If you had to recommend one or two fics that capture the characters of Snape or Hermione particularly well, what would they be?

What fics to you find yourself returning to, as a reader and/ or as a writer, and why?

Betas have my next chapter of "In Loco Parentis" -- something might be able to be posted before my vacation is over. But I need to keep the story going, hence the questions above.

Vacation is going well. Still have enough left that I'm not stressing too much yet about starting next term. Weather has been gorgeous for hiking the past couple of days. Cheers to all.

Hmmm, I think Seven Preposterous Things most closely gets at the real heart of the characters for me because the author makes it a point to show how flawed they are. Snape isn't some romantic character in a billowing black cape, he's a jealous, trashy, petty man, and yet the reader still ends up rooting for him. The language in this story gets pretty vulgar at times, which oddly adds to the charm of it for me, but if you're bothered by such things, be forewarned.

On the subject of your story, someone was requesting links to any fics where Snape and Hermione raise a de-aged Harry together. I almost recc'd In Loco, but part of their request was for Snape and Hermione to end up together in the end and I wasn't sure if you were going there or not.

Thanks for the rec-- I think I've read this, but I'm enjoying it again. (Or I was before I went to the eye doc this morning-- now I'm a little too blind to read. But does that stop me from typing? Nah....)

On my story-- who knows? I'm not much into ship fic, as you know, but at this point, anything's possible. I think In Loco was being announced on one of the HGSS live journal sites when it updated as if it were ship fic. For what that's worth. But the other reason not to rec it is its extreme lack of completeness.

For HG/SS specifically or in any potter fic in general? For the pairing, Deeble's "What E'er Therin Is Promised" is excellent. Otherwise two favorites for overall characterizations would have to be "Death Eaters At The Malfoy Estate" by Grindylowe and my all time favorite, ever and ever, amen, "The Knight Errant Chronicles" by [livejournal.com profile] guernica_shaw which is ridiculously long, unfinished, SS/OC and maybe one of my favorite things I've ever read period.

Alas, I'm not a Harry Potter fan. I've read the first couple of books, and I've gone with my family to see all of the movies (I think). So, while I do read some HP fiction if it gets recced to me, I couldn't tell you if any of it is true to the characters or anything.
