Virtual Write-in, anyone?
Nov. 3rd, 2007 03:18 pmCalling all Nano Participants,
mini_nanowrimo members and
wrisomifu members, and anyone else who might be interested:
If they are holding any Nano write-ins in Greater Cincinnati, I have yet to hear of it. Our city is so incredibly lame. But
clavally the pirate queen and I were discussing the possibility of doing virtual write-ins, and sharing the suffering a bit.
I have never been to a real write-in, much less a virtual one, so first-- what do they do at the real ones? Anybody know?
And second, how could we make a virtual write-in fun? Any ideas?
Third,
clavally and I are on for next Saturday from 3-5pm Eastern US time-- I'll be at the Campbell County Library(ETA: Nope-- Panera has free wifi, and I have it on good authority that Snacks are an integral part of the write-in experience. Thanks,
ishtaritu) using their wireless (mostly to get my miserable self out of the house. Wee Hob will be camping with the Scouts, and I am so not going to brave the cold for the joy of the Great Outdoors.) But I will also be off work Monday and Tuesday, so if anyone wanted to suggest a time on those days, I would be all for it. We can exchange aim usernames and do whatever else folks do to encourage each other at these events. I just updated my profile with my aim id-- so if anyone sees me online and wants to distract me, feel free. Be aware it's one I also use for work, though, and try not to bug me on real work days.
I'm actually at the library now, as well, so feel perfectly free to bug me until 5 today Eastern US time....
I better get back to it. There's a plot here somewhere. And possibly a theme. I just know it.....

We sit around in coffee shops or wherever with our laptops, we chat and laugh, we drink coffee, we have sandwiches, and we write.
I, as the Municipal Liaison, make it a policy to bring fun things, like my Bag o' Inspiration o' DOOOOOOOOOOM which is a ziploc bag full of slips of paper, each of which has a writing prompt of some kind on it (or some of them are papers out of fortune cookies). Occasionally we pass the Bag around, and everyone pulls a paper. Whatever they read off the paper has to somehow be included in their novel.
That's basically what we do at a write-in.

Date: 2007-11-04 02:25 am (UTC)So. Instead of the Library, it has just occurred to me that Panera has snacks and free wifi. (Starbucks has the snacks, but alas, you have to pay for their wifi. Which would leave me cranky and with no money for snacks.)
I guess once in a while we can zing a random writing prompt over the aim fence. And we can chat. Not quite the same, but again, Cinci is Teh Lame.
Now, the home region I grew up in, and have affiliated just because, apparently Rocks-- Dallas/ Fort Worth has been sending me a bunch of invites to their cool events. They've even gotten so big they had to split into two this year.
Ah well. Thanks for the inside info. How long and how frequently do you hold write-ins?
Happy noveling.
and hey-- is nanowrimo.org not loading for you, either? I'm getting timeout errors trying to get in to update my word count. grrrrrowl.....
