In order, thanks to the kind folks who agreed to beta for me this go around. I didn't reply back via LJ because doing so would unscreen the comment, and I'm sure none of you need another email from a bank official in Kenya asking for a favor because you are such close personal friends....

Then thankfulness. I took Wee Hob to his therapist today. She has been treating him, for free, since I got him back. She told me once that she felt it was the least she could do, to make up for what the System did to us all, and she's quite fond of my growing hobgoblinn. In the course of sorting out some of his odd behavior and normal teen rebellion, she told him some things about that time when we were apart, and what she'd observed me do out of love for him. It made us both tear up.

I forget, sometimes, just how far we have all come, and how amazing it is to be having the relatively minor problems we're having now, and how really lucky he is to be back with me, as imperfect as I am, instead of in even a good adoptive family where he would always fear they'd reject him, or get taken away just like happened with me. But hearing an objective observer talking about it, someone who professionally and personally has seen so much over her career in this truly f-ed up system.... I think I had blocked out so much of it to get by, that I'd also blocked out the stuff I really do have cause to be proud of, and thankful for.

And I finished my first category for this round of Judging at SOTHA-- only 3 fics, but still, they're done and sent off. Some of my sections have upwards of 10 fics, so I will have some work ahead of me. But I feel quite virtuous now, and think I've earned watching the Campbell County Library copy of the DVD "Truly, Madly, Deeply." As several of you pointed out, it's not in print and fairly unavailable, so I was happy to locate it in a local library system at which I do not have insurmountable fines. I also got Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, which Wee Hob and I may see over the weekend. Alan Rickman yumminess, this way.

Good thoughts for breakthroughs, and tissues and good thoughts for Truly Madly Deeply. :-)

I love that version of Robin Hood because it's just so bad and everyone has a 1980s mullet, but Rickman knows exactly what film he's in and plays the Sheriff so over-the-top evil that it becomes hilarious. Have fun with the kiddo!

Sounds like the therapist is good for both of you. {{hugs}}

I'm pleased you were able to get to see "
T,M,D
" - I love both Rickman and Stephenson in that. Have you ever seen The
Barchester Chronicles
with a young Rickman as a wonderfully slimy and obnoxious Mr Slope? Well worth hunting down if you haven't.

And after
Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves
you need to watch
Robin Hood, Men in Tights
. No Rickman, but oh teh snark is joyous.
