Huh. This is interesting. I was quite pleased and surprised to be recced for "Lost Boys" in the_new_library the other day. (Thanks again, sunsethill. I hope to see more recs from you for things I haven't read or written. There's entirely too much of a particular ship on that comm so far. Need more Snape to even things out.)

But I was astounded this morning to see I had been mentioned in hgss_digest for "In Loco Parentis."

What? *blinks* It's Not HG/SS. It's Genfic. Truly.

*Looks again* Yeah, says Genfic in the listing. But Hermione and Severus are so far the only two characters over the age of 2. And it's in their alternating 3rd limited POV. Okay, sorry. I guess I just panicked. I've been reading so much HG/SS fic that it has affected my take on the characters, just as being exposed to Buffy/Giles stories first in the Buffyverse affects how I approach the two of them in fic. I can't write smut or romance, but that doesn't mean certain assumptions and expectations don't filter in as I'm writing.

Still, I apparently need to get some chaperones on the scene pretty soon for "In Loco." Just in case. The Dursleys better enjoy their vacation while they can.

In unrelated news, I did a good deed last night. I did not rat out the Good Monsignor to Miss Emma, Wee Hob's confirmation sponsor, the one who is deemed unable to control "That Boy." I have plausible deniability, as no one has spoken to me directly about it. And The Good Monsignor could not help but notice that That Boy was seated next to Miss Emma at the confirmation preparation retreat last night. If he pushes things, I still may. But I won't go out of my way to bring down the good lady's formidable wrath on the unfortunate Ordained One.

Even if a wicked part of me still wants to sell tickets when she finds out.....

I finally went and reviewed In Loco Parentis. I can really see it becomming an HGSS fic. Come on, why fight it? :p~~

And you're a far better person than I. I would have ratted out the monsignor. I'm buying if you ever do sell tickets!

Yes, I saw. In fact, I started a reply, but then it got long and I realized I was doing a lot of thinking out loud for the story I might want access to later, so I am placing it here instead:

Wow, thanks for the review. I'll do my best to get something written quickly.

I think what I want to see is not so much for them to become lovers, but to see Severus integrate into the Order in some way, not as a lone operative now (since that's not an option any longer) but as a comrade in arms, not just to Hermione and Harry, but leaving things open for him to help the DA in that final year. It's all really vague right now, though.

I think the progression I'm going for is for him to move from being "In Loco Parentis" to recognizing his kids have grown up, and seeing what kind of relationship they can build as adults. What kind of family they can create. Harry and Hermione and this situation are there together at a very critical time for him, with all his coping mechanisms and avoidance ones as well knocked loose, and the added stress of having killed Dumbledore not long ago. He has a lot of guilt and pain to work through, and in this AU, he has some people to help him through it, and to keep reaching out to him because they need him present, too. He'll make efforts for others he won't make for himself, I think.

We'll see where it goes. Except, I was a Bad hobgoblinn and agreed to judge another fic awards round. I was kinda waiting for an e-mail or something with a link to the sections, and that's not how this group does things. I have my assignments and a link now, though, so no more excuse for not starting it.

So has the review count for Lost Boys gone up? Now that I didn't blow up or have people yell at me when I made a rec, I may rec some of my favorite new Snape-mentors-Harry stories. There are about three that are traditional but have fun elements.

Yeah, it has a little bit. Lots of hits, certainly, and a couple of alerts/ favs added. Thanks for doing it. I'll look forward to your other recs, too. You did a fine job on your first one. Even if I am a little biased due to its subject matter.

I was thinking Loco Parentis was sounding like an HG/SS pairing also, but that's probably because I've been reading so much of them lately. It's good to know you're not heading down that road.

Do you plan on writing any more interactions between Dudley and Harry?

Thanks! And yes, the Dursleys will be back, and Dudley is post-dementor here. I have a scene in mind of the two of them.

As to HG/SS, I think it'll be more interesting to see if he can reach out to people in deeper ways than sex. Sex is easy, at least in the heat of the moment. I don't know how well I'll navigate it, but I'm fairly sure it will be no worse than if I tried to insert romance into the mix. Since I so suck at that.
