Well, I have until the end of the month to move out. Luckily, I signed a lease Friday to start on July 1 and can probably get the keys at least a week in advance. The new place is in an apartment complex, but it's really nice, more centrally located for us, still in walking distance to school, closer to the library and my work and wee hob's best pal's new house. So, all is working out there. Moving sucks, but it really could be so very much worse.

As to the "stay or go" question, I staked out my name on both greatestjournal and insane journal. If Live Journal and Six Apart begin/ continue behaving in ways I can't in conscience condone, I'll switch to one of them. But at the moment, like so many others, inertia is LJ's friend. I'm already moving my Household, for heaven's sake. Really don't want to move my flist. And I do not have the energy to keep up with flists on multiple media. No way. So for now, you may find me here when I'm not packing boxes, threatening wee non working hob with dire consequences, or writing my Summer of Giles -- what's the opposite of masterpiece?

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] clavally has infected me with some really good Harry Potter fanfic, and through her flist, I've now met [livejournal.com profile] lady_clover and branched out into some of her favorite authors on http://fanfiction.net. I seem to recall someone ([livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs?) referring to ff.net as "The Pit of Voles", but I'm afraid I can't remember quite why. I created an account just to get updates on some stories that sucked me in, but I'm not sure I want to post my couple of completed fics out there just yet. I mean, it's not like I have anything else to do, right?

Hope all is well with the flist. If others of you are also HP fans, I'd really like to see some thoughtful genfic, particularly about Snape. I've read and enjoyed [livejournal.com profile] penwiper26's HP stories, but I would be up for other recs. PWP though-- sorry, no. Romance is fine (I like Buffy with Giles after all), but... well. As my grandmother used to say, "Ain't it nice we're all different."

Oh yay! Hooray for new leases. Moving is a complete pain, I agree. *looks around at book problem* Moving is impossible.

Let me know what you discover in HP fandom land that's good. Clavally has a ton of recs, I know, but I've been intimidated by them. I read some Snape/Hermione back in the day (pre book 5 publication), most of which was not particularly smutty or smutty at all. Will try to find the links...

Hob,

Please please please read this one:

http://www.witchfics.org/anna/romanholiday/index.html

It's Roman Holiday by Anna. Its the first book of three. IMO the best of the best. Sadly the last in the series, "The Last Tango In Paris" is only 3/4 written but it is so good. If you like I can point you toward other must reads. Don't trust my Favourite Authors links on FF.net, it's been to long and it needs revising.

Wow, thanks. I read something by humanity74 last night that was quite good-- the time travel one, where Snape's experiences going back in time change him, and he has to put things right. With the help of the self who never went back. Lovely characterization. And amazing scope. Hope the writer finishes it.

But the first 5 chapters of this are awesome in a whole different way-- thanks for the rec!

Wow, do you know I just clicked on reply to recommend this exact story? I've just started rereading it yesterday!

I'm adding my vote to this one. Not just because it's a wonderful story, but because this first installment deals with music. Specifically Palestrina as a wizard!

Great minds think alike, eh? :)

Yes, it's spooky even. I usually tell my husband to 'get out of my head' when that happens. I won't do that to you. I'm pleased that you've read Anna's 'Travelogue'. It's wonderful, and my personal favorite of all of the hundreds of stories I've read. I just wish she'd finish it. The last scene she wrote with Voldemort behind glass is chilling and her style is exquisite. I wish I could write half as well.

Have you ever watched 'The Dresdin Files?' Every time I see his ghost I think of Anna's Sal. I tell my husband that he should read the story but he won't. He claims to be on the other side of the digital divide and says that reading online hurts his eyes. I'd print it out for him but it's just too long.

Have you put any more thought into the round-robin. I really like prompt #11:

"11. Prompt - Post Voldy defeat and Hermione is now a vampire. Given the Wizarding
world's intolerance of vampires what will she do? Who will help her?
Perhaps the bat of the dungeons?"

I'm working it up in Dramatica now. I like the way the story is coming to me and will be happy to write it alone or with you. If that one doesn't work for you we could work on one of your choices. I saw your Buffy/Heroes crossover idea and wish that I could help there but I don't follow either show and would be useless.

Good luck with the move! Moving is hard, but it sounds like the new place will be worth it.
