hobgoblinn: (snape quill)

Well, a mixed week, with copious drama. Sadly, much of it was not fictional.

Be that as it may, I have decided to start posting a new fic in progress, without a complete draft to guide my faltering steps. I have a couple of betas doing that-- thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sahiya and [livejournal.com profile] research_girl for their gracious help. Next up will be the 06 Nano novel, as that really is nearly complete. Once I incorporate the changes from [livejournal.com profile] gillo and sort out my sad excuse for geography, it should be in shape to begin posting earlier sections while the later ones get polished.

While I'm at it, thanks to any and everyone who's ever offered feedback or formal beta reading, on anything I've written. You don't know how many times I catch myself about to do something stupid and remember what one (or more) of you have said.

Of course, as all three of the lovely ladies above can tell you, I am endlessly inventive with the stupidity.... (Thanks, you guys.)

But for now, here's the link to this one:

Summary: A traitor. A rescue. What happens next? Snape finds himself once more a guardian of two very fragile children, and reflects on what it means to be a father. AU from HBP, age-regression, genfic. Not Severitus. FRT.

Drop by and let me know what you think, there or here. And hugs to everyone.

Wow, excellent fic! Do you have any plans to expand the narrative beyond that?

Wow, thanks! And yes, absolutely. I have about 6 parts written, and I'll keep after it until it's done. As I post new segments, you'll see a link here (when LJ is behaving itself.) Or you can add it to story alerts if you have or get a Pit of Voles account. I'm shooting for weekly updates. We'll see how that goes.

Thanks for reading, and commenting.

Harry's last comment--about life without love being pointless--combined with the prospect of his having to go through another miserable childhood made me think of something I'd always wondered about: Given his horrible life with the Dursleys, how did he turn out to be such a good, decent person? There must have been something psychically protective, as well as physically protective, about Lily's loving sacrifice for him. Does that mean if, as the title implies, he has to grow up all over again but with Snape this time as a surrogate parent, he'll still turn out OK?

Anyway, great story. I'm very much looking forward to updates.

Wow. Thanks. This is why someone should post WIPs-- for good questions like this.

Honestly, I've thought for a while now that JKR's version of how Harry became so "good" was contrived at best. There's no way such a child could have grown up as kind and decent as this boy is. Your idea is a better explanation than anything I've seen or could come up with.

As Harry comes of age just a few weeks after where we are now in the story, I don't plan on having him take another 16 or so years to grow up again. But I do plan to address the first childhood and have people try to make this one a little better.

Sorry for being such a crappy beta.

Don't be silly. Stuff happens, and you have plenty else to suck up your time. Kids in particular tend to suck it up unexpectedly, too. Don't worry about it. You'll get another shot at me, never fear. You can always drop by and leave a review, too. (Addictive. Shiny. And no pesky calories....)

*hugs*

Hullo! Once again I wish I read HP -- or had time to try something new. Still, very glad you are writing, for one day, who knows? it might be just the thing I need!

I've had a couple of reviwers nail me-- good naturedly, of course-- for the way this one blithely refuses to let facts get in the way of telling the story I want to tell-- might be argued I'm so far from HP now as to not be in the same universe....

Well, it is an AU....

And there are times I feel the same about actual canon. At any rate, thanks. And hugs back. And as you'll see when I finish the post I'm laboring on now, I could use all the hugs I can get.
